Saving the planet has been the goal since the beginning of the 20th century. Taking care of the environment and discussing the climate crisis has echoed from politics to fashion. In 2015, and thanks to this crisis surrounding us, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created. These goals, if implemented correctly, could help us save the planet, our resources and our quality of life by 20230.
In 2022, 7 years after the SDGs were established, the first warning arose. Not only we haven’t met 50% of the SDGs; we are far from doing so. To reach this goal, everyone must do their fair share of the work: governments, the private sector, society, you, me. Everyone.
However, the current social climate and the challenges are becoming increasingly hard to face and, although there are many of us in the same boat, we are not rowing at the same time and going in the same direction. Therefore, in 2022, after seeing such a discouraging outlook, we decided it was time for a new plan to SAVE THE PLANET.
The IDGs, or “Inner Development Goals,” are our new lifeline; they are the greatest accelerator we can use to achieve the SDGs.
But… What are they, and how can they save us?
As human beings, we must strengthen our personal skills. IDGs offer us transforming abilities to come closer to a purposeful, productive and sustainable life.
This new proposal arrives at the right time. Since the pandemic, many people have shown greater interest in educating and improving themselves, and now —more than ever— we need people to strengthen their thinking, attitude and skills. Consequently, the IDGs invite us to grow across five key dimensions:
Being: Our relationship with ourselves
Thinking: Cognitive skills
Connecting: Caring for others and the world
Collaborating: Social skills
Acting: Driving change
Each dimension encourages us to strengthen our ability to understand complex problems, transform how we relate to others, collaborate with diverse people and take decisive action—even when it challenges how we view the world and our place within it.
It is this renewed development and perspective that will enable us to achieve the SDGs and help save the planet.
Today, we welcome a new journey on this planet—a journey inward that allows us to put the planet first and then see ourselves as learners of its wisdom.
