Sustainability: The story of a promising future.

Within this vast stage called Earth, sustainability emerges as an intriguing chapter, a story still being written. It is the promise of a future where what we know today merges with eternity.

But who takes on the role of narrator in this story?

Back in 1983, Our Common Future, also known as the Brundtland Report, coined for the first time the magical concept of “sustainable development”. Four decades later, this story keeps bottled in a debate with other plots, often sidelining the balanced combination of its three dimensions: social, economic and environmental.

We then face a dilemma: prioritizing economic grow at the expense of that three-dimensional harmony.

We often put off concern for the environment and the community until we have accumulated enough wealth to carry out “sustainable” actions. But here’s the catch: sustainability isn’t the exclusive duty of wealthy individuals, corporations or governments; it’s a story that each of us is called to write in our daily lives. It’s not an expensive luxury, but often a series of small acts, such as separating our waste at home or choosing to walk when going shopping.

Sustainability shouldn’t be seen as an isolated chapter in our story, as a parallel chapter that needs to adjust to our commodities or economic status. Instead, it is an exercise in awareness of our environment and our deep interconnection with it. We are not islands; we are threads that weave the fabric of life on Earth. Hence, we must close the gap that separates us from the rest of the natural world and allow it to take center stage.

Recognizing this is essential to ensuring our own existence.

And so, amid this epic story, a question arises, reverberating like an echo: What are you willing to do to bring sustainability to every corner of the world? In every daily choice, in every small gesture, we have the opportunity to be the guardians of a livable future, a future that endures. Sustainability is a shared promise, and together we can weave the thread of a story where life flourishes on every page.
